Why I am Running for Office
Utah Republican Party Voting District Chairman
Rochelle and I had been active in Politics helping others get elected since the 80’s. My job of 24/7 emergency callouts for 32 years at IBM prevented any public elected office. I was elected to a Voting District Chairman for the Utah Republican Party (Neighbors invited me and elected me, found out that as a Voting District Chairman, I did all the dirty work). I did that for about 5 years, went to conventions, met Orrin Hatch, Jason Chaffetz and helped a feisty City Councilman beat the Utah Senate Proteome who had a shot for Utah Governor. The rumbling could be heard in Saint George, Utah.
Retired to Idaho – school children 4 day school week?
After I retired, we built a home in McCammon after being away 30 years in Corporate America. Retired from 50 years of work and 3 major employers, US Airforce, IBM, and Thrivent Financial. I watched the neighbors first, second, and third grade kids get on the Yellow Bus at 6:46 AM for a 20 minute ride to school and get off the bus at 4:45 PM and on Fridays, not going to school and kids selling $7 Walmart Christmas wreaths for $32 to play in the band. What is going on here?
Phone Call from Idaho State Senator
In 2016 a State Senator called me and asked me to run for the Idaho Senate, I said “NO, No, NO” for 90 minutes until I saw those children getting off the bus at 4:45. The Senator was a lawyer and wore me down and hit my “Hot Button” as Education was my way out of Poverty. I had no idea how to run for office, different when a person volunteers, but the Money, how do you be competitive when your opponent receives 97 Checks from Idaho Lobbies of $43,000 and I received $700 from 2 lobbies? I had $8,000 from 140 People and he had 3 checks of $600. Five to one advantage and my opponent never asked for a donation nor did he go door to door.
Idaho Legislature 28 Candidate 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022
Today I am a Candidate in election #3 as a Candidate for Legislature District 28 A. Could not beat my opponent in the Senate but must have given the 20 year Incumbent some worry in the 2018 election.
Come Back into the Republican Party Fold?
I was approached by a former District 28 Republican Legislator, he knew I had been a Republican Voting District Chairman in Utah, and asked me “Why don’t you come back in the fold of the Republican Party?” I answered that if the Democrats had driven K-12 State Education Funding to lowest in the nation, had they shifted taxes from Corporations, Syndicates, and large land owners to those who can least afford taxes with a 20% increase in Sales Taxes, and Property Tax Levies and did the other things that use Fear to intimidate and retaliate to “Make Money”, I would have run as a Republican, But they did not, YOU did and the Republican Party you represented”” He smiled and turned away saying “Good Luck”.
Nixon style “Dirty Tricks”
I won’t share all of the “Nixon style Dirty Tricks” of the Conservative Republicans I experienced running for 300 days, in 2 campaigns but if asked, I will share. One of the questions, Educators ask and others who want change, “Can You Win?’ That answer depends on the willingness of people to take a chance on me. I Think, I have the business skills and judgement from the Corporate World, Small Business environment, and a Veteran, I can contribute to help stopping the strangulation of K-12 State education Funding without raising taxes, just a little shift back to the Corporations that will reduce property taxes in the process. I need 50% plus 1 Vote to do that in November for the next 2 years.
When elected, I will represent ALL Constituents – People = Not Lobbies
The 40,000 eligible Voters in Legislative District will decide that question. Rest assured, I am NOT a “Political Party guy”, I don’t care what your political Party you prefer, I will represent everyone to the best of my ability, I’m an American and served my country in the US Air Force as an American that had a profound effect on my appreciation of this country.
